Strategy & Development
The Strategy and Development Committee began working together, gathering information about the strengths and weaknesses of Saint Andrew Parish by listening to parishioners and school parents. The committee has conducted surveys and forums to discern the ministerial and financial needs of those in the parish community. Through the efforts to establish priorities and give direction, the committees determined the need to better utilize space and to raise revenue to support the school and the expanding ministries of the entire parish. An architectural firm, ESA, was hired to provide a Master Plan. The phases of the Master Plan are being examined for feasibility and determinations will be made before any official capital campaign is launched to raise the funds necessary to implement the Master Plan.
On the advice of the Strategy and Development Committees, Saint Andrew Parish hired a full-time Development Associate to coordinate the advancement efforts already undertaken by the committees. Since the previous Development Director left, the committees have been responsible for overseeing the Parish Strategic Plan and all Development efforts. From 2004-2007 efforts were made to listen to the concerns of parishioners and to prioritize their needs and desires. Information regarding the demographics of the community within parish boundaries was gathered to consider the needs of the larger community and the role the parish would take in meeting those needs. As a result of these tremendous efforts, many changes to programs and facilities have been made and many more have been suggested.
Two major fundraising events have been launched: the Golf Outing, under the direction of Jim Langhenry, and the Wearin’ of the Green, originally coordinated by Anne Hoban. These events have raised funds each year to support the general operating expenses and expanding ministries at Saint Andrew. In conjunction with the Above & Beyond Major Giving Campaign and other minor fundraising efforts, the Development Department was able to raise $123,000 in net income during the 2006-2007 fiscal year.
The Development Department is currently working to establish a viable FAN Club. The FAN Club, which stands for Friends, Alumni and Neighbors of Saint Andrew, expands the notion of the more traditional Alumni Association to encompass individuals and families who have been a vibrant part of Saint Andrew Parish both in the past and in the present, but who may not have anyone who officially graduated from Saint Andrew School. The Inaugural FAN Club BASH was held on December 1, 2007 with all proceeds going towards the Window Replacement Campaign. The intent of the BASH initially to gather old friends together to share memories and reminisce about the part Saint Andrew has played in their own lives.
Friendraisers are events that parishioners or school parents offer to sponsor for the benefit of Saint Andrew Parish. Events include such activities as Skating Parties, Parents’ Night Out, board game parties, and 80’s parties. Parishioners pay a small fee to attend, and all proceeds from the events are donated to the parish development fund. The events offer a great opportunity to build community and to support the parish efforts at the same time.
