AttendanceRegular attendance is required for all grade school children by the State of Illinois. All school absences need to be reported to the school office by 9:00 a.m. Students are also required to bring a note upon return to school to excuse an absence. Prolonged absence requires a doctor's note to return to school. Students who are absent from school more than 28 days within an academic year may be retained in the same grade or asked not to return the following year. Emergency contact information is requested at the beginning of each school year. Parents/guardians are responsible to keep emergency phone numbers updated throughout the school year. No student will be released from school during school hours unless accompanied by a parent/guardian or designated adult. Partial Day Absence A full day's attendance at school is very important to the success of each student. If occasional medical or dental appointments are necessary during school hours, a note should be sent to the teacher from the parent/guardian explaining the reason for early departure or late arrival, the time he/she will be picked up and by whom. The teacher will then notify the school office. A partial absence is recorded as a half day absence. Whenever possible, please make your child's appointments after school hours or on days when the students are not in attendance. Morning Arrival and Tardiness Children should arrive at the school playground not more than ten minutes before the entrance bell rings at 8:00 a.m. Supervision begins at 7:50 a.m. Due to limited outdoor space, the students are asked to gather at their designated line-up locations upon arriving. At 8:00 a.m. the school doors will be opened and teachers will escort students to the classrooms. During inclement weather or bitterly cold days, school doors will be opened at 7:50 a.m. and students may enter the building. Any student who arrives after his/her class has entered the building must report to the school office for a tardy slip. If parents/guardians know at least one day in advance that their child will be late, you must inform the school office. Dismissal of Pre-K and Kindergarten All students in Transitions, Pre-school and Kindergarten must be picked-up by a parent, guardian, older child of the same family, or another adult designated by the parent/guardian. Special arrangements for an alternate adult unknown to the child's teacher must be made by phone or note in advance of dismissal time. No child of this age group will be allowed to leave school alone. Early Dismissal Every Wednesday students will be dismissed at 1:45 p.m. All other early dismissal days and times are scheduled in advance and will appear on the school calendar or in weekly updates incorporated into the Parent/Guardian Memo. Students who have not been picked up by 3:15 p.m. (or 2 p.m. on Wednesdays) will be sent to our Extended Day Program and the parent will be charged at the current rate.
