Annual Christmas Appeal 2016

“Do not be afraid!” the angel spoke to the shepherds. Does that message extend to us as well? Hopefully through your parish community. Just as the shepherds were charged to care for their flocks, we are charged to care for our parish. Fr. Sergio invites us in his annual letter to be mindful of supporting our parish with a generous spirit during this time of year.
Dear Friend of Saint Andrew,file_117

“Do not be afraid; for behold, I proclaim to you good news of great joy that will be for all the people. For today in the city of David a savior has been born for you who is Christ and Lord. And this will be a sign for you: you will find an infant wrapped in swaddling clothes and lying in a manger.”

A baby wrapped in swaddling clothes lying in a manger would hardly seem a convincing sign of salvation. One would expect such a savior to be of noble birth, dressed in fine linens, and lying in a magnificent palace. But, the shepherds were a faithful people who trusted in the angel’s message. They knew well enough to look beyond what their eyes saw.

We too are a people of faith who trust in the Christmas message, which tells us that our God has come to save us. We likewise know well enough to look beyond what our eyes see. Where the world only sees bleakness, we see hope in the God who promised to shepherd us beyond our fears and wants.

With that vision of faith firmly in place, we move beyond our own wants and needs and we recognize the needs of others. This is what motivates parishioners like you to support our parish through offertory giving, through participation in the Enrich, Expand, Grow capital campaign, and through the gifts of time and talent. I thank God for the many ways you and all of our parishioners support Saint Andrew Parish.

As we celebrate the birth of our Savior please consider making a generous Christmas donation to Saint Andrew Parish. I realize that many worthwhile charities make similar requests during this time. And this year’s capital campaign asked much from our parishioners. But, our annual Christmas appeal has traditionally benefited our parish by ensuring its vitality and longevity. Please help us to continue making Saint Andrew Parish a place of hope for our world and our Lake View neighborhood.

As we approach these days filled with family and friends, we invite you to join our parish family in celebrating this season of great joy and hope. Please be assured of my prayers for you and your loved ones during this blessed season. May God bless you abundantly.

Peace in Christ,

Reverend Sergio Romo
