Giving Tree Christmas 2016

Saint Andrew Parish and School will again be partnering with St. Mary of the Lake and St. Thomas of Canterbury, located in the Uptown neighborhood, with a Christmas service project through a Giving Tree. Last year’s project was incredibly successful and we helped over 550 students ranging from Pre-K – 8th grade stay warm over the cold, winter, Chicago months.

giving-treeWe are excited to be kicking off the Giving Tree Project for this 2016 holiday season. Like last year, an ornament for each student from St. Mary of the Lake and St. Thomas of Canterbury will be hung on a tree located in the School or the Church which will be up in time for Advent. All trees will be up and stocked with ornaments from Monday, November 28-Wednesday, December 7.

With the new drop off and pick up policy, families can choose an ornament in the following ways:

1. Volunteers will be out in front of school starting on Monday, November 28- Wednesday, December 7 handing out ornaments to families when dropping off (7:45-8:10am) and picking up (2:45-3:10pm) their children.

2. K-8 children, with parental permission given to the homeroom teacher, may select ornaments off the tree in the hallway, outside the main office of the school.

3. There will be a tree decorated with ornaments within the Transitions, PreK and JrK classrooms. Parents dropping off their children may visit those trees to gather ornaments.

4. Families may select ornaments off the tree located in the Church during school Mass on Wednesday or on Saturday or Sunday. We ask that every family participating purchase 2 new winter warmth items from a pair of gloves/mittens, a winter hat, a scarf or socks.

Please do not spend more than $25.00 per child and only purchase 2 items. The Principal at St. Mary of the Lake and St. Thomas of Canterbury was very clear that each child receive no more or no less than every other student to keep this project equitable and fair.

Once families have finished their shopping, they can return the ornament(s) and their purchased gifts in a zip lock bag to either the School or Rectory offices during office hours.

Please DO NOT wrap the gifts. All purchased gifts need to be received by 3pm on Friday, December 9.
