New Pastoral Associate

IMG_2074Many parishioners have come to know the newest staff member at St. Andrew Parish over the course of the last several months. David Heimann began at the parish on July 22, 2015 and worked part time while transitioning from his previous assignment at St. Isidore Parish in Bloomingdale IL. Now full time, he has been commissioned as a Lay Ecclesial Minister by Archbishop Blasé Cupich.

Commissioned Lay Ecclesial Ministers are formed by the Archdiocese of Chicago for the purpose of serving in a variety of church-related positions. David serves in a position known as “Pastoral Associate” which is a church role that can cover various responsibilities to support the pastor as is needed. David has the responsibility of overseeing Religious Education, directing parish electronic communication, and serving as a liaison to the school in support of its Catholic Identity and sacramental preparation. He also leads the RCIA program for adults interested in becoming Catholic.

David is a native of Southern Illinois, growing up in Collinsville, IL outside of St. Louis, MO. He attended the Catholic University of America in Washington D.C. and graduated with a degree in Music Theatre Performance. He moved to Chicago in 1998 and has since worked with many local theatre companies and in 2003 won a Jeff Award for Supporting Actor in a Musical. He currently works with Theo Ubique Theatre Company in Rogers Park ( He also volunteers with the Order of the Arrow, the National Honor Society for the Boy Scouts of America as a leader for the shows at their National Conferences.

David has worked for the Church for 17 years. First at St. Ignatius Parish in Rogers Park, followed by St. Isidore Parish in Bloomingdale, IL. He holds a Master of Divinity from Loyola University. His primary work in parish administration has been to work with youth ministry, and this has led him to lead numerous mission trips, retreats, and pilgrimages domestic and abroad. His ongoing pilgrimage in the journey of life was highlighted by a special pilgrimage that David made in the year 2007 when he made a pilgrimage to visit 365 Churches in 365 days through 38 countries on 5 continents. David is extremely happy to be serving at St. Andrew Parish and is grateful for the warm welcome he has found in the community.
