Pray the Angelus

The Angelus is a simple and profound Catholic prayer that celebrates the Incarnation of Jesus. For centuries, it was said together in parish communities where the village Church bell would ring (Usually at 6 AM, noon, and 6 PM), and on the sound of the bell, everyone would stop what they were doing and pray this short, but significant prayer.

In today’s world, we could ring bells from the towers of St. Andrew and be lucky to be heard by a handful or parishioners.  But that doesn’t stop us from praying together. Sign up with us, and you’ll receive a text message every day at noon as a reminder to pray the Angelus together with parishioners from St. Andrew parish, no matter where you are. The message will have a link to this page which you can view on your smartphone. You can then follow along with the words of the prayer.

(during the season of Easter, the Angelus is replaced with the Regina Coeli. This prayer can be found below the Angelus)

The Angelus

V. The Angel of the Lord declared unto Mary.
R. And she conceived of the Holy Spirit.
 Hail Mary, full of grace,
The Lord is with Thee;
Blessed art thou among women,
And blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus.
Holy Mary, Mother of God,
Pray for us sinners,
Now and at the hour of our death. Amen

V. Behold the handmaid of the Lord.
R. Be it done unto me according to thy word.
 Hail Mary, etc.

V. And the Word was made Flesh.
R. And dwelt among us.
 Hail Mary, etc.

V. Pray for us, O holy Mother of God.
R. That we may be made worthy of the promises of Christ.

Pour forth, we beseech Thee, O Lord, Thy grace into our hearts, that we to whom the Incarnation of Christ Thy Son was made known by the message of an angel, may by His Passion and Cross be brought to the glory of His Resurrection. Through the same Christ Our Lord. Amen.

V. Queen of Heaven, rejoice. Alleluia.
R. For He, whom thou wast worthy to bear. Alleluia.
V. Has risen as He said. Alleluia.
R. Pray for us to God. Alleluia.
V. Rejoice and be glad, O Virgin Mary. Alleluia.
R. Because the Lord is truly risen, Alleluia.

Let us pray
O God, Who by the Resurrection of Thy Son, our Lord Jesus Christ, hast been pleased to give joy to the whole world, grant we beseech Thee, that through the intercession of the Blessed Virgin Mary, His Mother, we may attain the joys of eternal life. Through the same Christ, our Lord. Amen.
