Children at St. Andrew’s Making a Difference

One child, one teacher, one book, one pen can change the world.”                     Malala Yousafzai

CCD/Religious Education Presentation:

As part of CCD/Religious Education’s initiative to include service electives, two students, Kate and Ellen Ariathurai, presented a summary of the different ways to get involved with the different programs that support Fr. Matthias’ ministry in Uganda.  Their hard work helped students and parents better understand that by sponsoring a student or assisting with the fundraising for the building of a school can help Fr. Matthias’ community in such a big way!  They spoke about how their efforts to create this presentation gave them a better understanding of the larger world around them and that their work will help to make a difference in the lives of the children in Uganda.  Thank you Katie and Ellen!

St. Andrew Third Grader: Making A Difference

In January we announced in the bulletin a new endeavor with Fr. Matthias called Uganda Essomero Chicago (UEC), a new 501(c)3 organization created to oversee fundraising efforts for a new primary grade school in the village of Myanzi, Uganda.  One third grade student at St. Andrew, Ona Sodaitis, saw this announcement and decided to forgo presents for her 8th birthday and asked her friends to donate to UEC and the new school instead.  The UEC Board is proud to announce that their very first brick for the new “Brick By Brick” campaign to raise money for the school in Myanzi was bought by Ona and her friends.  The fact that a new school to support so many children in Uganda was started by a third grader is very powerful and we could not be more grateful.  Thank you Ona Sodaitis!
