The Giving Tree: Update

Thank you Saint Andrew!  You have been so generous and supportive of The Giving Tree project!  This year, St Andrew began a new relationship with St. Mary of the Lake and St. Thomas of Canterbury to support these parishes as a “sister parish.” The first effort in this relationship was to provide warm hats and mitten for 550 students at these schools. Over 3 weeks of this project, parishioners flooded the parish rectory with gifts which were delivered on December 16, 2015.

As you can see from the below picture, this is what your kindness looks like … and these were only about 30% of the bags!

We were so pleased that all the ornaments on the Giving Tree were spoken for and that all 550 students received a gift bag!!

As many of you know, many of the children from St. Mary of the Lake and St. Thomas of Canterbury come from immigrant and refugee families. At times, the cultural shift does not translate easily in to surviving and thriving in a cold Chicago winter.  The gifts given to each child included 2 winter warmth items and a candy cane thanks to a very generous donation from the Wrigley Company.  Novelty items and extra winter items were also dropped off to both schools for them to use for younger or older siblings or whatever they deem appropriate.

Below are photos of some of the students who received gift bags from St. Andrew Parish. Thank you to all who participated and supported this wonderful effort.
