Acceptance Guidelines

A child applying to Early Childhood Education [ECE] must be toilet trained. Age requirements are:
  • Transitions (Fall) – turn 3 between September and March
  • Transitions (January) – turn 3 between January and August
  • Pre-School (3 days/week) – turn 3 by September 1
  • Junior Kindergarten (5 days/week) – turn 4 by September 1
  • Kindergarten applicants must be 5 years by September 1
In order to maintain small class sizes enrollment must sometimes be limited. The following factors are considered, in the order indicated, to determine acceptance:

  1. Returning students who are currently enrolled in Pre-school through 8th grade (not Transitions)
  2. Siblings of students who are currently enrolled in Pre-school through 8th grade and are returning
  3. Children of registered Saint Andrew parishioners
  4. Children, grandchildren or siblings of Saint Andrew School alumni
  5. Catholic children of families not registered at Saint Andrew
  6. Non-Catholic children
Certain additional criteria may be considered as part of the acceptance process:

  • Family located within parish boundaries
  • Participation in Transitions or Baby Bulldogs programs
  • Affiliation with organizations with a long term relationship with Saint Andrew School

Admission of Transfer Students

Transfer students must submit the following items with the application, for purposes of grade placement and determination of appropriate learning programs (e.g., Excel Program):

The writing sample, math assessment will be completed at Saint Andrew School and should take about one half hour. The interview will also take place at the school, following the assessments. Please call the school office to schedule an appointment.
Eighth graders are considered on a case by case basis, when exceptional circumstances warrant.

Documentation Required

Upon acceptance for admission to the Early Childhood, Kindergarten or First Grade student, parents/guardians will submit:

  • Original copy of the child’s birth certificate. A copy will be made at school and the original will be returned. Hospital records are not acceptable.
  • One copy of the Baptismal Record, if applicable.
  • Record of physical examination and immunization history, signed by physician and parent/guardian. Forms are available in the school office.
  • Dental examination form filled out by a dentist

Immunizations

Illinois State Law requires proof of immunization for each student from the following diseases: Diphtheria, Pertussis, Tetanus, Poliomyelitis, Rubeola, Rubella, Mumps and Chicken Pox. All Kindergarten and 5th grade students must have a Hepatitis B Vaccination. Please notify the school office, in writing, of any immunization updates.

All students entering school for the first time, Early Childhood, Kindergarten, and First Grade must provide proof of a current physical examination (within six months), immunization history, and dental records in accordance with Illinois State Law. In addition, all fifth graders must have a complete medical examination within 6 months prior to the beginning of the school year. Proof of these immunizations and tests must be on file prior to the beginning of the school year. These records are kept in the student’s file in the school office. Non-compliance with the law requires exclusion from school.

Book and Archdiocesan Registration Fees

A non-refundable Archdiocesan and book registration fee of $400.00 for Pre-K and $400.00 for K-8 is required. An Early Bird discount of $250.00 per student is available to returning students when paid by the February 1, 2011 deadline.
